Product updates, new features, and improvements to the CleverX platform.
Improvement
Better support for Prolific study routing
Surveys can now serve multiple Prolific studies more reliably, and participants with recoverable submission states can retry participation.
Improvements
Multiple Prolific studies per survey: Surveys can now be linked to multiple Prolific studies simultaneously. The platform uses the study ID from the participant’s link to verify their participation, with a fallback to the survey’s primary Prolific study for backward compatibility.
Recoverable submission retries: Participants whose Prolific submissions entered certain recoverable states can now retry the participation link. This helps participants who were previously blocked from completing the study due to submission state changes.
How it works
When a participant joins from Prolific, the platform checks:
The study ID in their participation link (if present)
The survey’s primary linked Prolific study (as a fallback)
This allows surveys to serve multiple Prolific studies without routing errors, while keeping legacy behavior intact for surveys with a single study link.
Improvement
AI Interview setup improvements and guide editor
Researchers can now set up AI interviews more smoothly with better mic testing, and structured discussion guides with AI-powered formatting.
New Features
Structured discussion guide editor — Replace free-form text with organized topic cards that let you manage topics, questions, and follow-up depth visually
Paste & Structure — Paste your raw discussion guide text and AI will automatically structure it into topics and questions for you
Inline duration estimator — See estimated interview length as you build your discussion guide
Mic testing on pre-screen — Participants can test their microphone and check permissions before joining an AI interview, catching audio issues upfront instead of mid-session
Improvements
AI interview pre-screen now displays a mic dropdown, live audio level meter, and real-time feedback so participants know their microphone is working
Start Interview button is disabled until microphone is confirmed working
Feature
Third-party participant recruitment via Sources
Platform now supports recruiting participants from external panels through a new Sources system with dedicated landing pages and LinkedIn sign-up integration.
New Features
Sources system: Researchers can now recruit participants from external panels using dedicated source links. Admins generate source-specific links per study that participants can access.
Participant landing flow: Participants arriving via a source link see a source-aware landing page where they can optionally fill out a contact form or sign up with LinkedIn.
Unified credential system: Participants sign up through the standard LinkedIn flow with automatic linking to the source, creating a seamless experience across the platform.
Works across all study types: The Sources feature is available for surveys, unmoderated studies, AI interviews, and all other study types.
Source attribution: Each participant recruited through a source is properly tracked and attributed to that specific source.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a critical issue where survey requests outside the Sources flow were causing database errors. The system now correctly handles participant tokens for source-recruited participants without affecting standard recruitment flows.
Fix
Quota slots freed from rejected responses
Responses rejected during review no longer hold quota slots, making them available for new participants.
Bug Fixes
Quota slot management: When a researcher rejects a response during review, the quota slot is now properly released and available for the next participant to join the study. Previously, rejected responses would hold onto quota slots even after rejection.
Feature
Free observer role with permissions and billing changes
Researchers can now invite observers to their team as a free role with restricted permissions for viewing studies and results without consuming paid seats.
New Features
Free observer role: Invite team members as observers at no cost. Observers can view studies and analysis results but cannot create or launch studies or generate analysis.
Observer permissions: The platform now clearly distinguishes observer capabilities from paid team member roles across all interfaces, including role permission modals and team invite forms.
Flexible role changes: Team members can be upgraded from observer to a paid role (with prorated charges) or downgraded from paid to observer roles.
Improvements
Cleaner participant identification: Participant names in bring-your-own-audience studies now display the full unique identifier instead of a truncated version, making it easier to identify participants for payouts and support.
Fix
Signup URL and session display improvements
Fixed signup route consistency and restored inline playback controls in session details while ensuring participant names display consistently across the platform.
Bug Fixes
Signup route standardization: Signup URLs are now all lowercase to prevent login failures with external auth providers. Old links and bookmarks to capitalized signup URLs will automatically redirect to the correct lowercase version while preserving your referral information.
Session playback and transcript: Restored inline video player and transcript viewer in session details, allowing you to scroll through the transcript and have the video jump to the relevant timestamp.
Consistent participant names: Participant names now display consistently across all sections of the platform, including the Sessions tab, session details, and participant lists.
Fix
Screener fixes and per-study incentive modes
Fixed screener completion issues where participants got stuck, and added the ability to configure incentive payment modes per study.
Bug Fixes
Screener stuck state resolved: Fixed an issue where participants who answered all screener questions but experienced a network interruption would get stuck on an empty “No screening questions found” screen. The screener now properly detects when all questions have been answered and completes automatically.
Screener branching finalization: Fixed screener branching logic that was leaving participants in an “Accepted” status indefinitely instead of properly completing their responses.
New Features
Per-study incentive modes: Research teams can now configure different incentive payment modes for each study, giving you more flexibility in how you structure compensation across your portfolio of research projects.
Feature
External panel participant support and booking improvements
Full integration for external panel participants from Prolific and Respondent.io, plus improvements to calendar event links and automatic qualification for panel studies.
New Features
External panel participant support: Researchers can now recruit participants directly from external panels like Prolific and Respondent.io. Panel participants experience a seamless flow matching the existing participant authentication system.
Automatic qualification for panel studies: When a B2C panel study has auto-invite enabled, participants who pass a 100% screener now automatically qualify and proceed directly into the study (or booking for moderated research), streamlining the recruitment workflow.
Improvements
Better calendar event handling: Calendar event links (“Add to Google” / “Add to Outlook”) on booking confirmation pages now point back to the booking page rather than participant-specific meeting URLs. This ensures the calendar entry remains valid even if the video conferencing platform changes, and reflects the actual meeting details participants will see when they click the link.
Feature
External incentive mode support for direct researcher payouts
Researchers can now run studies where they pay participants directly outside the platform, with clear participant communication and payment tracking.
New Features
External incentive mode for studies: Researchers can now create studies where they handle participant payments directly, outside of CleverX. When using this mode, participants see clear messaging that “Your incentive will be paid by the researcher directly” and are notified once payment is complete.
Improved payment status tracking: The platform now tracks external payment status and keeps participants informed of their payment status throughout the study completion process.
Improvements
Grid question interaction: Enhanced user experience for table-based questions with better cell interaction and overflow handling.
Feature
Video diary clips and Wave 1 simulation features
Added per-question highlight clips for video diaries, combined recording downloads, and a new suite of simulation tools including persona chat, research uploader, discussion guide editor, and persona roster editor.
Video Diary Enhancements
Combined recording downloads: Download a single combined video file instead of separate camera and screenshare videos. The browser streams the file directly to disk for faster, easier access.
Per-question highlight clips: Automatically generated clips extracted from your recording for each individual question. Browse and download question-specific segments without managing the full video.
Wave 1 Simulation Tools
New capabilities for setting up and running simulated research studies:
Persona chat: Chat with study personas in-character after your simulation session ends. Interactions are metered through your interaction pack and billed if you exceed available credits.
Prior research uploader: Upload research documents to ground your simulation personas in real, relevant context.
Discussion guide editor: Create and edit discussion guides with AI-powered generation to guide your simulation before launch.
Persona roster editor: Customize individual persona attributes and regenerate personas before running your study.
Persona detail drawer: View detailed persona information during your simulation session.
Interaction credits bar: Track your interaction pack usage in real-time across chat, surveys, and group features.
