Use CleverX in Claude and ChatGPT

Connect CleverX to Claude or ChatGPT to ask about your research in plain language and draft new studies, without switching tabs.

You’ll need: a CleverX account on a paid plan. In a team, you need to be the Owner, an Admin or a Researcher (Observers can’t connect AI tools).

Connect Claude

  1. In Claude (web, desktop or mobile), open Customize → Connectors and search for CleverX.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Sign in to CleverX, or create an account, and choose the workspace Claude should see: your personal workspace or one of your teams.
  4. Click Allow access. Then ask Claude something like “What needs my attention in CleverX today?”
  • Team or Enterprise plan on Claude: your Claude Owner may need to enable the CleverX connector for your organization first.
  • Claude Code: connectors you add in Claude are available in Claude Code automatically when you’re signed in with the same Claude account.

Connect ChatGPT

CleverX is coming to the ChatGPT plugin directory. Until it’s listed, you can connect it as a custom MCP server if your ChatGPT plan allows custom connectors:

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server.
  2. Paste https://mcp.cleverx.com/mcp.
  3. Sign in to CleverX, choose a workspace, then click Allow access.

What you can ask

  • “Summarise the key findings from my latest completed study, with a few quotes.”
  • “In my AI interviews, what did people say about pricing?”
  • “Which usability task did people struggle with, and where did they give up?”
  • “How is recruitment going on my onboarding survey?”
  • “Draft a 5-minute survey for product managers about feature requests, then tell me what’s missing before launch.”

What it can and can’t do

  • Reads: your studies, participant progress, survey answers, usability task results, transcripts, highlights and AI analysis.
  • Drafts: creates and edits draft studies, checks launch readiness and estimates the price. Editing can change or remove questions, tasks or targeting, so your assistant asks before it does.
  • Stays in CleverX: launching studies, recruiting and contacting participants, approving and paying responses, buying credits, and team and account settings. With the standard connection, nothing launches from the chat and nobody is contacted. (Launch and approve are a separate beta; see the last section.)
  • Privacy: your assistant sees participants the way CleverX shows them to you (first name and initial, or a pseudonym such as Participant_4821), and never their contact details. What you ask about is sent to your AI tool’s provider under your agreement with them, so check its data settings, for example whether your chats can be used to train its models. Our Customer Terms ask you not to send participant data to a tool that trains on it. Details are in Section 15 of our privacy policy.
  • Check important facts: answers are written by your assistant from your CleverX data and can be wrong or incomplete. Check key numbers and quotes in CleverX before you rely on them.

Switch workspace or disconnect

  • Switch workspace: reconnect CleverX in your assistant and pick the other workspace.
  • Disconnect in Claude: Customize → Connectors → CleverX → Disconnect.
  • Disconnect in ChatGPT: Settings → Plugins → CleverX → Uninstall.
  • Disconnect in CleverX: Settings → AI tools → Connected AI tools → Disconnect. Access ends within 5 minutes.

Troubleshooting

  • “AI tools are included in paid plans” (or a paid-plan error in your assistant): AI tools need a paid CleverX plan. In a team, the team owner’s plan counts. See pricing.
  • ChatGPT doesn’t show new tools: open Settings → Plugins → CleverX → Manage → Refresh tools.
  • A study isn’t found: the assistant only sees the workspace you chose. Reconnect and pick the other one.
  • Something went wrong: try again in a moment. If it keeps happening, email support@cleverx.com.
  • Security issue: email support@cleverx.com with “Security” in the subject (see cleverx.com/security).

Advanced: connect by URL, Claude Code, Cursor

  • Custom connector: in Claude (Add custom connector) or ChatGPT (Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server), paste https://mcp.cleverx.com/mcp and sign in.
  • Claude Code or Cursor with an API key: create a key in CleverX (Settings → AI tools → API keys) and follow the snippet on that page.
  • Launch and approve (beta, for researchers CleverX has enabled): an Owner or Admin turns it on in Settings → AI tools → Permissions (in your personal workspace, you do). Then add the separate address shown there as a second custom connector. Each launch or approval asks for your confirmation in the chat and uses only credits and funds already in your account.
